A group of 24 artists painting Malta’s first Nature and History Park in the north-west of Malta will be exhibiting their works at a fund-raising event organised by Din l-Art Helwa in the courtyard of Vilhena Palace, Mdina, from 2 to 15 July. Part of the proceeds will be passed to Din l-Art Helwa’s

restoration projects. This is the second exhibition of al fresco paintings jointly coordinated by Petra Bianchi and Kenneth Zammit Tabona, since the first event last year. Since then the group of artists who regularly meet to paint together in the open air has been steadily growing.

The painters held outdoor painting sessions in various areas of the park, with its stunning hillside and coastal views, including spectacular cliffs, garigue, clay slopes and arable land, as well as archaeological sites such as rock-cut chambers, corbelled huts and cart ruts. The park stretches from Anchor Bay to Golden Bay and includes the area of Xaghra l-Hamra, once earmarked for a golf course.

The participating artists are Kenneth Zammit Tabona, James Vella Clark, Andrew Borg, Justine Meli Bugeja, Albert Caruana, Mona Vella, Angela Theuma, Jeni Caruana, Henry Alamango, Jason Lu, Denise Borg Millo, Marisa Attard, Caroline Navarro, Anna Galea, Carol Jaccarini, Gabby Holland, Christine Xuereb, Jacqui Agius, Arlette Zammit, Alfred Briffa, Chris Briffa, Joan Zammit Cutajar, Winston Hassall and Simon Theuma.

The government recently announced its intention to entrust the management of the Nature Park to the NGOs Din l-Art Helwa and Nature Trust. The exhibition is being sponsored by Heritage Malta, Marsovin, and the Ministry for Rural Affairs and the Environment.
