A man yesterday pleaded guilty to violently and indecently assaulting a woman who he had met earlier that evening.
The incident took place on the night between Saturday and Sunday in Kirkop when Paul Vassallo, 24, from Kirkop, violently and indecently assaulted a 19-year-old woman in his car. The victim’s name is not being published by court order so as to protect her identity.
Before Magistrate Doreen Clarke, Vassallo also pleaded guilty to holding the woman against her will, to slightly injuring her and to offending public morals.
Magistrate Clarke put off the case to Friday when she is expected to hear the testimony of the victim as well as one of the two police inspectors who investigated the case. In the meantime, he was granted bail against a deposit of Lm100 and a personal guarantee of Lm100.
Police Inspectors Louise Calleja and Walter Spiteri prosecuted while Dr Kris Busietta appeared for the accused.
