A man was charged yesterday with attempting to seriously injure a policeman and another man when he drove his car into the policeman’s car, slightly injuring him.

Jason Delia, 29, from Senglea, was charged with attempting to seriously injure Police Constable Mark Anthony Buttigieg and William Dingli when he drove his Citroen into a Skoda being driven by the police constable at around 10.30pm on 3 September last year.

Mr Delia was also accused of assaulting and repeatedly punching PC Buttigieg and Mr Dingli, slightly injuring them, damaging PC Buttigieg’s car, threatening a police officer, resisting the police, driving recklessly and dangerously, breaching the peace, swearing in public and offending a police officer. He was also accused of relapsing.

Before magistrate Lawrence Quintano, Mr Delia pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Police Inspector Anthony Cassar prosecuted and Dr Roberto Montalto appeared for the accused.
