Din l-Art Helwa executive president Martin Galea has announced the winners of the 2007 Din l-Art Helwa Marine Photographic Competition.
Each winner has been presented with a prize of Lm100.
The winner of the category highlighting marine pollution was Neil Jarett, with his winning entry Neglect in our Harbours, a photo of polluted waters in Bugibba.
This was Neil Jarett’s first entry in a photo-graphic competition and proved successful.
The winner of the category highlighting the Beauty of the Marine Environment was Mario Micallef, with a photograph entitled Cirkewwa Anchor with Squid Eggs, a unique and colourful picture capturing the unusual image of a nest of tubular squid eggs attached to an anchor seen on the seabed in Cirkewwa.
The competition was organised with the intention of raising awareness of the
country’s marine environment and forms part of Din l-Art Helwa’s Blue Campaign.
Entries were judged by Kurt Arrigo, Joseph Chetcuti and Stanley Farrugia Randon.
Din l-Art Helwa thanked all the participants for their efforts and said it hopes to make this photographic competition an annual event.
The exhibition will remain open to the
public at the offices of Din l-Art Helwa at 133 Melita Street, Valletta.
