A company that signed an agreement in September 2006 to act as an agent for MTV Networks Europe filed an application in court yesterday claiming that the contract had been breached when they were completely bypassed for the organisation of an event in Malta.

The application was filed in the First Hall of the Civil Court by Euro Media Ltd against MTV Networks Europe (MTVNE) and Viacom Networks Europe Inc.

Euro Media Ltd explained that it signed a partnership agreement with MTVNE and Viacom Networks through which it became their local, exclusive agent in Malta. Early in 2007, meetings were held with the Tourism Ministry and the Malta Tourism Authority regarding the organisation of a music festival, which included spots promoting Malta on MTV.

The event was organised but Euro Media Ltd were bypassed and neither a licence fee nor commission was paid.

The company called on the court to declare that the foreign companies had breached the contractual agreement they had signed with the local company and ordered them to pay them damages and the commission they are owed.

Dr Patrick Galea and Dr Joseph Mifsud signed the writ.
