General Workers’ Union deputy secretary general Geitu Mercieca has filed a libel suit against In-Nazzjon, the newspaper owned and run by the Nationalist Party, over an article published in yesterday’s edition entitled Ipprova jxolji l-Bord tad-Diretturi tal-Untours.

In his writ, Mr Mercieca claimed that the article, which was written by journalist Nathaniel Attard, was defamatory, libellous and based on untruths. He said the article was only intended to tarnish his reputation.

By means of the writ, Mr Mercieca requested the court to order In-Nazzjon and the journalist to pay damages not exceeding Lm5,000 (EUR11,646).

The libel suit was filed by GWU legal consultant Aaron Mifsud Bonnici.
