The Labour Party is incapable of governing the country for all the Maltese people, the Nationalist Party said yesterday in a statement in reference to the recent remarks made by the Opposition party's secretary general Jason Micallef.

The remarks had been posted on the internet video streaming site YouTube, but were later removed - an act the Nationalist Party said yesterday demonstrated the fact that Mr Micallef prefers such blunt comments to remain between Labourites instead of reaching the public domain.

Labour's true colours come out when the party's exponents speak between themselves, the Nationalist Party said yesterday, as evidenced by Mr Micallef's comments to the effect that 'between us, I am pleased to say: this will be a government for Labourites'. But, the PN observed yesterday, the MLP speaks in an altogether different fashion in front of a different audience.

Mr Micallef's comments had been posted on YouTube for all and sundry to view on spokesperson Charles Buhagiar's YouTube page, and, according to the PN the comments being placed in the public domain had enraged Mr Micallef, who said whoever was responsible for placing the discussion on YouTube was "an idiot" who had also embarrassed Mr Buhagiar.

The PN added that in an interview, Mr Micallef had said he was "disappointed" that the talk had made it to the internet, which, according to the PN, revealed that Mr Micallef had intended the comments to have remained between Labourites, and that a future Alfred Sant government would exclude both Nationalists as well as the more moderate Labourites.

The PN added that former Labour minister Freddie Micallef, speaking at the same activity organised by Charles Buhagiar, had urged the party to prepare people by approaching them to inform them who would be given new responsibilities under a new labour administration.
