Sevenair, the Tunisian regional airline, previously operating as Tuninter, introduced its newly delivered CRJ-900 jet aircraft, the made in Canada Bombardier, on its Tunis-Malta service last Wednesday.

The recent change of name was part of a renewal strategy to give the airline a fresher look backed by better service.

Following the success of the CRJ-100/-200 (Canadair Regional Jet) series introduced in 1992, Bombardier went ahead with the production of two larger variants. This included the 86-seat version CRJ-900, which has a longer wingspan longer, and a redesigned tail with more span. In typical service the CRJ-900 has a service ceiling of 41,000 feet, an average true airspeed of 450-500 knots and a maximum range of 1,837 miles, a significant improvement over its predecessor. The CRJ-900 made its first flight in 2002 and by June 2007 a total of 62 CRJ-900 aircraft were in airline service, with 36 further firm orders.

Bombardier Inc. is a Canadian company, founded by Joseph-Armand Bombardier as L’Auto-Neige Bombardier Limitée in 1942.

Over the years it has been a large manufacturer of regional aircraft, business jets, mass transportation equipment, recreational equipment and a financial services provider. It is a Fortune Global 500 company, and its headquarters are in Montreal, Canada. The Fortune Global 500 is a ranking of the top 500 corporations worldwide as measured by revenue. The list is compiled and published annually by Fortune business magazine.

Since starting operating as Sevenair in July, the Tunisian airline has also introduced an ATR 72-500 French/Italian new generation 70 capacity aircraft. At present the airline operates two Tunis-Malta flights weekly, on Wednesdays and Sundays.
