Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi told a meeting with the National Council of Women (NCW) at St Julian’s that the number of women who worked full-time and part-time has increased by 2,700.

Dr Gonzi said the manufacturing industry was at present undergoing some changes and that employment was consistently increasing. Women had a fundamental role in society and their contribution was essential at a time when opportunities were so rife on the island, Dr Gonzi said. He went on that the government was working hard to continue introducing initiatives that would favour Maltese women and that a lot of girls were still pursuing their studies with the aim of gaining benefits from the new opportunities available.

Dr Gonzi also spoke about the PN vision for 2015 based on the importance of Malta reaching an excellent standard with regards to information technology, health, education, the added value in the manufacturing sector, the financial sector and Gozo.

The NCW delegation was led by vice-president Grace Attard who said that the NCW saw the PN campaign for 2015 as a positive initiative based on the progress of Europe and that of Malta for the benefit of women, men and families and that everyone had to contribute for this vision to materialise.
