Second Phase of Wied Babu embellishment project

Malta Independent Saturday, 8 September 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Resources and Infrastructure Minister Ninu Zammit yesterday went to see for himself work on the second phase of the works on the Wied Babu to Hagar Qim promenade.

Embellishment works around the country vary from the embellishment of existing promenades to the construction of new ones like the Wied Babu to Hagar Qim promenade, which leads to Wied Hoxt, in the limits of Wied iz-Zurrieq, said Mr Zammit.

The last 300 metres of the 1,300 metre-long second phase would form part of a traffic junction which needed to be modified. The result would be a promenade of over two kilometres in length. The Wied Babu to Hagar Qim promenade includes the refurbishment of a car park, the construction of a four metre-wide promenade, a belvedere construction accompanied by a lay-by for coaches, and the expansion of the first segment of the road leading to Hagar Qim.

The belvedere at the centre of the promenade has two principal functions, that of a leisure area for an over-two-kilometre walk and a site where one can enjoy the peaceful and picturesque view of the valley, Mr Zammit said.
