The ECDL Community celebrates issuing the seven millionth Skills Card worldwide. More than seven million people all over the world have registered to be certified with the international ICT certification.

The ECDL Foundation introduced the European Computer Driving Licence in 1997 and has now, more than 10 years later, registered seven million candidates around the world.

The issue of the seven millionth Skills Card confirms the position of ECDL / ICDL as the world’s leading end-user computer skills certification. ECDL / ICDL certification is available in 146 countries globally and has been translated into 38 languages. It is internationally recognised as the global standard in end-user computer skills and has been adopted by governments, international organisations and the international business community.

The ECDL / ICDL certification programme has been successfully introduced on every continent, providing an internationally recognised certification for a huge variety of people in many different environments. The ECDL Foundation has licensees all over the world who are responsible for the deployment of the ECDL Foundation programmes dedicated to raising the level of computer literacy in their societies.

In Malta the National Licensee for the ECDL range of certifications is the Computer Society of Malta. Since being awarded the licence in 2003, ECDL Malta has registered over 27,000 candidates for ECDL Core and almost 2,000 candidates for ECDL Advanced. More recently ECDL Malta was among the first countries to launch three new certifications: e-Citizen, ECDL ImageMaker and ECDL WebStarter.

The keen interest shown by Maltese candidates to learn a wide range of computer skills is highlighted by the fact that in terms of penetration rates for ECDL Core, Malta ranks among the top three countries in the world.
