‘Mysterious’ Visits by Tunisian presidential plane

Malta Independent Sunday, 9 September 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

A rather short video showing various visits by the Tunisian presidential plane to a number of places, including Malta, has been censored by the Tunisian agency for the Internet, ATI.

The video includes photos taken by amateur photographers that show the presidential Boeing (a 737 business jet turned into a flying apartment) visiting Malta, Geneva, Paris and Brussels and so on, over the past months when the Tunisian president was not on board.

It could thus be interpreted that the presidential plane was being used for family reasons, rather than just official ones.

But when the rather harmless video was put on the French counterpart of YouTube, Daily Motion, the Tunisian authority censored it.

Evidently, said the Tunisian dissident blog www.tunisia watch.rsfblog.org which reported the whole thing together with a copy of the video, although there could be many harmless and legitimate reasons for the Tunisian presidential plane’s many visits, the paranoia in the capital and especially in the presidential palace has led to such absurd measures.
