The fourth Don Bosco Summer Club, organised by the Don Bosco Oratory of Victoria, came to an end by a Mass celebrated by Gozo Bishop Emeritus Mgr Nicholas G Cauchi, followed by a film-show for children in the hall of the same oratory.

Three hundred boys and girls attended regularly the sessions of the summer club, held three times a week during the months of July and August. 80 volunteers, mostly youths, took care of the children and animated the sessions.

A typical day of the summer club would start with a Mass at the Chapel of the Oratory and then the children would be split into groups where they would be taught various subjects including crafts, clay-modelling, cooking, ganutell, dancing, drama, story telling, painting, crib-building, stamp-collecting, sewing and arkett. Other sessions included sports and fun-games.

During the summer club, a number of outings to Malta and other places in Gozo were organised. Children also participated in various inter-active activities organised by various groups including the Drama Unit of the Education Division, the OASI Foundation and the Medical Students.

The last week of the Summer Club was characterised by a number of activities which included an exhibition of crafts, paintings and other things produced by the children, a Concert at the Oratory Hall, a Variety Show at Marsalforn, a Pizza Party as well as a day outing at Ramla l-Hamra.

The building of the Oratory is currently undergoing an intensive refurbishment and modernisation project intended to cater better for the needs and safety standards of today, especially with regards to the socio-educational and pastoral needs of today’s youngsters.
