The Nationalist Party was the best choice for the country’s wealth to grow, employment opportunities to increase and the people to be sure about their future, acting prime minister Louis Galea told a meeting for PN paid up members of the first and eighth electoral districts.

The PN would be presenting a policy based on an improvement of the standard of living which was necessary for the country to continue enjoying wealth, peace and solidarity. It was always Nationalist governments which had strengthened these principles and brought achievements for the country.

Dr Galea said that between 1971 and 1987 the Labour Party implemented a policy of “a government for Labour supporters only” and the country and the Maltese had suffered a lot because of this policy. And the differences between the two parties were not only in policies but also in the quality of leadership they had.

In the last three years Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi had shown consistency, integrity, and seriousness and achieved positive results for Malta. In his 16 years as leader, however, Alfred Sant had followed a policy which created division in his party and serious problems for the government, with inflation and taxation which had disrupted the economy.

Dr Galea said that in 1997 Labour in government had attracted only Lm19 million in foreign investment. Last year the PN government had attracted Lm575 million of foreign investments. 6,100 jobs had been created and 225 projects had been approved.
