As part of an attempt to broaden the Maltese legal sources on trusts, the Institute of Financial Services Practitione-

rs (IFSP) and the Institute of Legal Studies (ILS) have taken the initiative and assigned sponsorships to 12 law students to produce legal publications. The students selected, all excelled in their assignments in fulfilment of the Trusts Law Credit offered by the University of Malta in 2007. These students have been appointed to editorial boards and entrusted with the preparation of three different publications scheduled to be completed by next month.

The first editorial board has been given the task of compiling LL.D and Masters (University of Malta) theses to date dealing with trusts. The board will seek the support of the authors of the relevant theses spanning from 1970 to date.

A second editorial board will collate judgments handed down by the Maltese courts as well as other materials pertinent to the subject of trusts and fiduciary obligations. This would be a follow up to the IFSP publication, Maltese Cases and Materials on Trusts and Related Topics (Volume 1) which was published in 2004. Finally, a third editorial board will edit and update the course materials of the Foundation Course in Trusts Law and Management, offered by IFSP, cooperating closely with the relevant lecturers.

The aim behind these projects is to further contribute to local developments since the coming into force of the Trust and Trustees Act and the related amendments to the Civil Code in 2004.

The aim of the IFSP and the ILS in funding these projects is to make updated information on important and relevant legal topics easily available to the growing numbers of practitioners in the financial services sector.
