The Union Haddiema Maghqudin (UHM) government workers sector has signed a change in the agreement which concerns the grades of government-employed couriers. This change requires courier positions to be filled through interviews with those who have held a grade 17 position in the last five years.

This change was effected after the UHM presented their case a number of times to the Management and Personnel Office (MPO) regarding the recruitment method of the senior couriers with respect to grades. During these negotiations, it was necessary that recruitment for this grade would be carried out through a competitive interview which involves the responsibilities and obligations of the courier’s work.

Despite this competitive interview among eligible couriers, the criteria established will continue to be respected and 60 per cent of vacancies will be filled according to seniority among the successful candidates while the rest of the vacancies would be filled on order of merit.

The same agreement requires that workers who already hold courier grades would be given the opportunity to participate in training programmes that ensures that their abilities reflect the needs of today and the exigencies of the modern public service. This agreement was signed yesterday.
