The Westin Dragonara Resort and Starwood Hotels and Resorts are proud to announce new positions to the management team. Ms Karen Warrington has been promoted to Six sigma Black Belt and Ms Sue Ciappara was promoted to Rooms Division Manager.
Ms Warrington started her career in the Tourism Industry in October 1997 at The Westin Dragonara Resort as a general cashier. Her career in the accounts department grew as she was promoted to groups billing and then to accounts manager. She then moved on to being promoted to Chief Accountant for the Resort. In May 2007 she became Six Sigma Green Belt which then led her on to becoming a Six Sigma Black Belt.
In 2001, Starwood became the first hospitality company to embrace Six Sigma, an internationally recognized approach that enables associates to develop innovative customer focused solutions and transfer those innovations rapidly across an organization. Six Sigma at Starwood aims to increase financial performance by improving the quality and consistency of guests’ experiences as well as that of internal customers. A Black Belt works on projects that address operational priorities and opportunities. During the course of project work, Black Belts lead teams to gather voice of the customer, remove root causes and pilot solutions. Starwood employs approximately 150 Black Belts worldwide.
Ms Ciappara, after graduating from ITS in Hotel Management and conducting several months training abroad, started her career at The Westin Dragonara Resort in 1997 as a Receptionist and after two years she was promoted to Reception Supervisor. In 2000 Sue Ciappara moved onto the Catering and Conventions Department where she handled large conferences namely Daimler Chrysler, Villeroy and Boch, Gillette and Sony. In 2003 she was further promoted to Front Office Manager which then led her to her new promotion as Rooms Division Manager. Her hard work in the different departments of the hotel resulted in being awarded the Prestigious Starwood Presidents Award in 2004. This award is given to Associates as recognition for the best achievement in their individual Starwood properties throughout the Europe, Africa and Middle East division. In 2006 she was also awarded the UNICEF Ambassador Award for Europe, Africa and the Middle East division.
