Less than a month after the assignment of period contracts for roadworks to be carried out on 45 residential roads in 19 localities, the government has assigned an additional five period contracts, amounting to a total of Lm300,000 (EUR698,812).

Seventeen residential roads will be resurfaced by means of these period contracts, which cover the localities of Birkirkara, Gzira, Birzebbuga, Marsaxlokk, Ghaxaq, Gudja, Naxxar and St Julian’s.

Following the completion of work on these roads, almost half the roads listed in the Residential Roads Programme 2006-2008 would have been resurfaced.

The programme included 468 roads in more than 47 localities, meaning that when all the roads are completed, the government would have spent more than Lm9 million (EUR21 million).

The government had embarked on this work following work carried out on about 380 residential roads between 2003 and August 2006.

Over the past two weeks, the transport authority’s Network Infrastructure Directorate completed roadworks in Mulett, Chesney, and Wied Glavan streets in Xghajra, l-Irdum and Dun Karm Frendo streets in Dingli, as well as Joanne Garden in Tarxien.
