In line with the direction set out by the Investment, Industry and Information Technology Ministry to the Board of Directors of the Water Services Corporation in his letter of 9 August, the corporation has informed contractors working on the development of the sewage treatment plants that it intends to make claims to recover the costs of their delay in delivering the work on time.

The Gozo plant, which was scheduled to be commissioned by mid-September, is being developed for the Corporation by Degremont S.p.A.

The Malta (North) plant, scheduled for commissioning by end September, is being developed for the Corporation by IBI S.p.A. and the Polidano Group.

Both have not or will not be completed in time. The letters, dated 28 August, were made public yesterday.
