The councillors’ section of the Labour Party said a statement issued by the Nationalist Party’s College of Councillors was intended to justify the boycott resorted to by the few PN mayors and deputy mayors who attended the mayors’ two-day meeting.

The untruths in the statement could be given the lie by the recordings of the meeting and through film. It was not true that any of the PN mayors or deputy mayors were insulted at any stage.

The MLP section statement said PN mayors and deputy mayors were not attending such meetings because they were now in the minority. When Labour was in the minority its mayors still attended the meetings.

It added that the PN representatives had left the meeting so as not to take part in the discussion of a motion supporting Labour proposals that every local council would have two projects which would be carried out by a Labour government. Many councils with a PN majority had not discussed the proposal either.
