Malta Independent Monday, 1 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Maleth, one of Malta’s established theatre companies, will be presenting an entertaining comedy series from Goldoni’s Commedia dell’Arte during Notte Bianca Lejl Imdawwal. The 20 minute acts will be in Maltese and will be staged in front of Palazzo De La Salle in Republic Street. The show starts at 6.00pm and the performances will be repeated.

The act will also include excerpts from Goldoni’s Il Servo Dei Due Pardoni. The troupe will be wearing colourful character costumes with masks from the play. In between the presentations, the actors will parade along the streets and perform sketches with the audiences.

This year Maleth is celebrating its 60th anniversary. The company has been at the forefront of Malta’s theatrical scene, producing memorable performances which were mainly held at the Manoel Theatre. During the 2007 – 2008 season, Maleth will be producing a new Maltese production, Il-Qaddej ta’ Zewg Sidien, one of Carlo Goldoni’s masterpieces. This production will also mark the 300th anniversary from the playwright’s birth.

The Malta Society of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce will be hosting a number of activities at Palazzo De La Salle. From 6.00pm to midnight, a group of lace makers will be demonstrating their skills in Maltese lace-making while another group of artists will draw and paint still-life objects at the courtyard.

Guitarists Steve Delia and Marc Galea will be entertaining visitors to Palazzo De La Salle from 8.00pm to 10.00pm with their repertoire of pop and jazz music.

In another hall, the Arts Directory will be holding their second annual collective exhibition of paintings by 26 established and young artists. The exhibition is co-ordinated by Robert Cefai.
