A man was yesterday charged with threatening a number of police officers with a penknife after he was stopped as he was driving his car without a road licence or insurance cover.

Duncan Duca, 31, from Birzebbuga, pleaded not guilty to assaulting three police officers in Qormi yesterday morning. He was also charged with slightly injuring one of the policemen, damaging their uniforms, driving the car without a road licence and insurance cover and

driving the wrong way.

He was further charged with being in possession of a sharp and pointed instrument without a permit issued by the Police Commissioner and with breaching the peace.

Before magistrate Lawrence Quintano, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. He was granted bail against a personal guarantee of Lm1,000.

Police Inspector Jesmond Borg prosecuted while Dr Anthony Cutajar appeared for the accused.
