A total of 447 nursing aides who are members of the General Workers’ Union yesterday requested the court to issue a warrant of prohibitory injunction stopping the health authorities from striking any form of agreement with another union which only represents a small fraction of nursing aides.

The nursing aides filed this request against the prime minister and the director general of the Health Division. They said that they have full faith in the GWU which should have the sole recognition since it represents 447 out of a total of 680.

The GWU wrote to the health authorities on 10 August requesting sole recognition but this request was turned down without a reason.

The nursing aides therefore called on the court to issue a warrant of prohibitory injunction stopping the authorities from reaching any form of agreement which would affect all nursing aides and not only the few it represents.

Dr Aaron Mifsud Bonnici signed the writ.
