Major Entrepreneurs working their way around the law – UHM

Malta Independent Wednesday, 3 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

The Union Haddiema Maghqudin (UHM) said yesterday that after it had worked hard for an amendment to the labour legislation through a legal notice, reports were flowing in that a number of major entrepreneurs were going against this amendment.

The amendment provided pro-rata rights to workers employed on a part-time basis of eight hours or more during the week.

The reports were that these entrepreneurs were forcing their employees to register as self-employed with the consequence of losing the rights they had gained through the union’s work.

The UHM said it was investigating these reports.
