Hailing from Umbria in Italy, L’Accademia dei Remoti joined by Cooperattiva Atmo, with the participation of Maltese artists, will be presenting a unique re-enacted battle spectacular called It-Taqbida at 00.30am on 7 October at Freedom Square.

This spectacular is jointly directed by Andrea Vitali and Mary Ann Cauchi while the set, the pyrotechnic machines, the costumes and the masks have been conceptualised and produced by Cooperattiva Atmo under the direction of Lazzari Graziano – over 22 years of experience in this field.

It is a show of aerial works, fire, music and drama where costumes turn into spectacular pyrotechnic machines, where actors dance on the trampoline synchronising their movements to music, where the stories and legends of the past are re-lived to be enjoyed by the public.

L’Accademia dei Remoti has extensive experience in the re-enactment of great historical battles. For over twenty years, they have participated in Assisi’s Calendimaggio and more recently they animated mediaeval and 16th century re-enactments at Orte, Brisichella, Lucera, Foligno, Conegliano Veneto, Trento and Sarteano. On many occasions they were hosted during RAI television live programmes from various towns and cities in Italy. They also participated in various well known Italian Carnivals including Viareggio, Capua, Milano, Cagliari and Venice.

At the end of the 1980s, under the artistic direction of Lazzari Graziano, the company embarked on a theatrical research programme aimed at involving the publics in a unique and original form of theatre that was inspired by the cultural elements of the Italian Renaissance theatre. This research led to the development of a particularly spectacular and intriguing form of theatre that generates very strong emotions.

Earlier on, between 8.00pm and 9.00pm, Cooperattiva Atmo, will present contemporary street theatre called Storie Tra Raggi di Luce. The production portrays the characters of the king, the wizard, and Mother Nature.

The grotesque characters from the spectacular productions of L’Accademia dei Remoti and Cooperattiva Atmo will parade through Republic Street between 10.00pm and 11.00pm creating an unusual atmosphere in the Capital city’s main street.
