The streets and squares of Valletta will be bustling with activities during Notte Bianca Lejl Imdawwal on Saturday.
Malta Police Band
From 7.30pm till 9.30pm, the Malta Police Band will be creating a festive atmosphere with their marching and drills in various streets and squares.
Knights Entourage
The sounds, costumes and history of Malta with the Grand Master, drummers, buglers, flag bearers, noble couples and guards firing muskets will provide a moving festival during Notte Bianca Lejl Imdawwal. Recognising the fact that the Knights of the Order played a very important part in the history of our island, this entourage of 30 persons will re-enact the pomp and pageantry while parading and giving short performances along the streets in Valletta, starting from Castille at 8pm and repeated twice: at 9.30pm and at 11.00pm. The master of ceremonies will leave no stone unturned to entertain passers-by with fanfares, flag displays, sound of the drums, muskets and more.
Dutch Carnival Group
Founded in 1974 at Zevenaar, the Street-band WIJ uut Zender started as a carnival group but soon added musical accompaniment. The band is usually invited to perform at street parades, big parties and festivals in Holland, as well as in Germany and in Tunisia. Their usual formation consists of four trumpets, three trombones, four saxophones, one snare drum, one bekken, one bass drum and a banner. To add even more colour, the 17-piece Dutch band will be accompanied by Maltese grotesque masquerades and dance groups. They will be entertaining the public for three hours, starting at 9.30pm.
City Parade by Atmo and Accademia dei Remoti
Between 10.00pm and 11.00pm the stunning grotesque characters on stilts from the spectacular productions of L’Accademia dei Remoti and Cooperattiva Atmo will also parade in the city streets.
City Buskers
Moreover, established and upcoming artists will be giving surprise performances in various streets.
Kinemastik
In a pavilion set up in Ordinance Street by Reasons For Living, Kinemastik will present Veni Vidi Plastik, a full night covering 99 most influential music videos on screen. Video art represents an important facet of the short form of films. Many contemporary cutting-edge filmmakers have used video art as a springboard to a successful career. This activity will start from 7.30pm onwards and entrance is free of charge.
SOS Malta
The car park adjacent to Castille Square will host food, music and live entertainment with a philanthropic aim by SOS Malta. The activity starts from 6.30pm onwards.
Medieval Market
Re-enactments of adventure and romance of the Middle Ages will be featured at the medieval market. This merry-making activity will be set up at Independence Square from 8.00pm to 00.30am.
