Pilot Project For waste collection

Malta Independent Thursday, 4 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

A collaboration agreement related to a three-month pilot project for the collection of sorted consumer packaging waste through Door2door Container Collection has been launched recently between St Paul’s Bay local council and Green Pak.

The identified area by San Pawl il-Bahar Local Council which had to be a “common area” shared by multiple is that of Porzjunkula Housing Estate. An educational campaign has inaugurated this project. It seems that the residents have favourably co-operated to this initiative. Thanks to this project, loads of packaging waste is being sorted weekly.

This project serves as encouragement to Porzjunkula Housing Estate residents to separate waste packaging into three main material types – plastic, glass and metal, wherein they deposit the used packaging in colour-coded containers. This project is being well managed and high collection quotas are being recorded.

The council encourages Green Pak to give similar opportunities to more residents of the locality residing in the various areas of St Paul’s Bay, thus helping foster within the community in particular and society in general, good practices for the separation and disposal of sorted packaging waste in the bins provided by the same company.
