A man and his wife were yesterday found guilty of committing insurance fraud and making false declarations.

Anthony McKay and his wife Rachel, from Fgura, were found guilty of filing a false police report at the Qormi Police Station on 26 November 2004. Anthony McKay alone was also found guilty of handling a stolen Peugeot 206 and a stolen Toyota Corsa. He was also found guilty of changing the Toyota’s chassis and engine numbers.

Before Magistrate Lawrence Quintano, the husband and wife pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them. Rachel McKay was placed on probation for a period of two years while Anthony McKay was jailed for two years suspended for four years and fined Lm600. The court also ordered the confiscation of the Toyota.

Police Inspector Stephen Mallia prosecuted while Dr Roberto Montalto appeared for the accused.
