Next Monday, Flora is holding its second World Heart Day Seminar at Razzett tal-Hbiberija in Marasacala at 9.30am. The seminar, which will be conducted in Maltese, will run for around two hours.
As part of its mission to make the world’s hearts healthier, Flora is holding four free seminars in Maltese, on nutrition and the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, the biggest cause of death and disability in the world. The aim of these seminars is to increase the understanding of major risk factors in heart disease and the importance of eating a balanced diet
The first “Flora World Heart Seminar” held at the Dolmen Resort Hotel was well attended by the public.
Senior Cardiac Surgeon Alex Manchè presented a detailed and illustrated explanation about the risk factors in heart disease. He stressed on the importance of quitting smoking, exercise, lowering cholesterol levels, and preventing stress and overweight. He said: “we should adopt a holistic approach towards the prevention of heart disease, enlisting the help of our doctor”
Jeremy Ellul spoke about eating a balanced diet to keep a healthy heart. He spoke about the types of fats and said: “Fats are still perceived as being ‘bad’. Even though fats contribute more calories per gram than other nutrients, certain fats are necessary for health, including heart health, and should be included as part of a balanced diet”.
Participants had the opportunity to ask various questions about cholesterol and other heart health related issues. They also received a voucher entitling them to a free cholesterol test, which is being sponsored by HSE Laboratory Services and St Philip’s Hospital, St Venera.
At the end of the seminar participants sampled the Flora pro.activ UHT semi-skimmed milk and Flora pro.activ mini drinks. These products are a line extension of the cholesterol lowering Flora pro.activ spread, and are available from all leading supermarkets in Malta and Gozo.
Flora is produced by Unilever and marketed and distributed in Malta by M&Z (Marketing) Ltd.
Concurrently Flora is holding a new campaign “Team up for Healthy Hearts” in conjunction with Eurosport to encourage physical activities. Flora products can be redeemed for sports gear at Eurosport in Birkirkara and Eurosave in Gozo.
For the benefit of Gozitans, Flora is extending its series of talks in Gozo and the third seminar will be held at Hotel Ta’ Cenc in Sannat on Monday 22 October. The seminar will start at 10.30am. Registrations for the Gozo seminar are open and close on Monday 15 October.
