McDonald’s have redeveloped their restaurant at the Plaza shopping complex in Sliema and this new, highly attractive design was unveiled at an informal meeting with the media last Friday.

“We’re a family quick service restaurant and in many ways we are in the feel-good factor business. It’s important our clients get this sense of wellbeing. We’ve brought together a team of restaurant designers, interior decorators and developers, all of whom have extensive experience developing McDonald’s restaurants across Europe.” said Melo Hili, managing director of First Foods Franchises, which owns McDonald’s in Malta. “We’ve created something that is beautiful and functional.” he added.

One of the newest features at the McDonald’s Plaza is the availability of a Wi-Fi facility. This means customers can go on the internet by using their mobile phones or their lap top computers and all this is free of charge.

The entire refurbishing- where the colour red, rounded stools and giant posters play a prominent role- took three weeks to finish. The restaurant has children’s and an upstairs dining area. Called “United”, the design by ERDDS of France, attempts to create a welcoming atmosphere, a sense of wellbeing and ease.

The functional aspect of the concept was developed by the Italian architect Max Di Bartolomeo of MDB Architettura, to create a friendly and functional environment. A company from Austria, Shloffer GmbH was awarded the contract for completing the outfitting and furniture production.

“We have lots of interesting plans for McDonald’s in Malta for the future. Expansion and making our restaurants consistently modern and attractive are two of them,” Mr Hili added.
