Malta Independent Friday, 19 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Employees at HSBC’s call centre in Swatar can now spend an hour a day working out at the newly inaugurated gym, set up purposely for employees to enjoy flexible working hours and a healthier work-life balance.

The fully equipped gym for employees comes complete with three treadmills, three bikes, two cross trainers, five resistance machines, a punch bag, a stretching area, a fitness room, showers and changing rooms. With the belief that employees are the most valuable asset of a company, HSBC continues to pursue ambitious goals of implementing exemplary workplace policies, to contribute toward employees’ work-life balance, and to attract the best talent to the Bank.

“Few, workplaces, if any at all, can boast of having facilities such as our gym, for staff members,” said Mark Sims, HSBC’s Head of Human Resources. “We know that if we give employees our best, they will give us their best in turn,” he continued.

The gym, supervised by fitness instructor Tony Camilleri Bowman, will provide flexible hours to employees and will also serve as a meeting place and an opportunity to socialise. It will be open seven days a week for long stretches, and will organise fitness classes, Pilates and Tae Bo.

Shaun Wallis, HSBC’s Chief Executive Officer said: “Our employees will keep recommending HSBC to their families and friends, as, in fact, they already do, because we are committed to making the Bank ‘The Best Place to Work’. We wish our Call Centre staff a great start towards an even healthier lifestyle.”
