On the 10th anniversary of the death of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, the Don Bosco Oratory of Gozo will be presenting a new musical about this modern saint in November.
Recently a CD which includes all the songs of the musical has been launched during a special Mass celebrated by the Bishop of Gozo Mgr Mario Grech at the Don Bosco Oratory.
This musical, being staged locally thanks to the collaboration of Italian composer Michele Paulicelli and writer Piero Castellacci, has been translated into maltese by Fr. Effie Masini and recorded at the PRO Studios in Gozo.
Vocal and musical direction has been entrusted into the able hands of singer and composer Pamela Bezzina, who will herself be portraying the leading role of Mother Teresa. Another leading part, that of the first voluntary worker, has been entrusted to singer Mario Caruana.
The lyrics of the songs of this new musical are based on the main highlights of Mother Teresa’s mission and teachings. In fact three songs in the album include the original voice of Mother Teresa, who herself had been to Malta on three different occasions.
In the meantime, preparations are well underway for this musical to be staged for the general public. Stage production is in the hands of Gordon Grech.
“Madre Teresa – the musical” will offer a spectacular event of two hours of songs, music and choreography to theatre patrons, by a hundred-strong cast.
“Madre Teresa – the musical” will be staged for the first time at the Don Bosco Oratory in Gozo on Saturday 10 November. Repeat performances will be held on Sunday 18, Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 November. All shows start at 7.30pm. Other special shows for school children are being planned.
Tickets for this musical show or copies of the CD “Madre Teresa – the musical” may be obtained from the Don Bosco Oratory of Gozo, or else by phoning on 2155-6616 or 9948-7751.
