THEATRE
Equus
2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 November at St James Cavalier, Valletta
Peter Shaffer’s great classic about a boy who blinds six horses. An insight to man’s need to worship and the distortions forced on that need by so-called civilised society. Alan Strang (Sean Buhagiar) seems a normal, obedient 17-year old with a passion for horses. Then one night he blinds six horses with a hoof pick. What drove him to it? Only psychiatrist Martin Dysart (Alan Paris) seems able to grasp the answer to this psychological puzzle.
Unifaun Theatre undertake this unique production which promises to be exciting and controversial as their usual stuff. The play is directed by Marcelle Theuma and the cast includes Alan Paris, Pia Zammit, Sean Buhagiar, Jo Caruana, Colin Willis, Jean Pierre Agius, Lilian Pace, Valerie Blow, Kane O’Flaherty, Kurt Castillo and Edward Degaetano.

Lucrezia Borgia
24, 25, 30 November, 1, 2 December at St James Cavalier, Valletta
Lucrezia Borgia: the very name has become a slur. It conjures up images of unspeakable corruption in female form. It sends visions of a beautiful, heartless, rapacious, carnal, treacherous femme fatale dancing through the popular consciousness.
Her reputation for foulness has achieved mythic proportions. She is seen as the ultimate counterpart to her monstrous brother Cesare. Together with their father Pope Alexander VI, they seem to create a perfect triangle of dastardliness. Poisonings, stabbings and garrotting are believed to be among the favourite pastimes of these three.
This is the general image of Lucrezia Borgia that has prevailed since her own lifetime. However, as time has passed, scholars have re-examined her life in an attempt to ascertain how much of this is truth and how much is fiction.
Lucrezia has emerged from this scholarship in the form of a pleasant, passive, characterless, shallow woman used as a political pawn by both her father and Cesare. In order to gain some insight into which, if either, of these views is the more correct, it is necessary to examine the major events of Lucrezia’s life as they are known to us.
Following last April’s success of Frankenstein, Lemonhead Productions will be presenting Lucrezia Borgia, an original piece penned by producer Bryan Muscat. The play, directed by Noel Tanti, revolves around this notorious woman. The play stars Michelle Bonnici, Neville Refalo and Sandro Vella amongst others.
Bookings can be made from St James Cavalier on 2122-3216.

Born in Sale, England in 1949, Winston Hassall began his artistic career as a textile artist in UK and Eire. Later in his life, his work required much travelling and this self-thought artist soon fell in love with what Malta has to offer to someone with a keen eye for the local landscapes and colours.
Married and residing in Valletta, Winston has been called “The Valletta Artist” for his countless works highlighting our Capital’s streetscapes and architecture. During these last years, he has found that watercolours enable him to produce striking effects of the Maltese urban scenery. Of recently, he has added acrylic as a new medium as well as the palette knife.
