Heritage Malta has lined up more educational workshops for children in conjunction with the exhibition Caravaggio L’Immagine Del Divino which is presently mounted at the National Museum of Archaeology and the National Museum of Fine Arts in Valletta.
Last Sunday, children aged between 8 and 12 years had the opportunity to attend a special drawing workshop which Heritage Malta organised in its special educational area that was specifically earmarked for this exhibition. To complement this drawing workshop, participating children were also given a special guided tour of the exhibition with specific emphasis on the works of the great artist Caravaggio.
In addition, a number of students from the Malta School of Art visited the museum and engaged in a drawing/sketching session of the paintings on display.
Tomorrow, the educational workshop will be held in the morning between 10.30am and 12.30pm. This two-hour session will introduce youngsters to the chiaroscuro technique which is synonymous with Caravaggio’s work.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to visit the exhibition together with their children and purchase a family ticket which can mean a savings of up to 30 per cent on the original admission fees.
This Sunday will also see a number of students from the Malta School of Art who will be visiting the National Museum of Fine Arts for a sketching/drawing session with the Caravaggisti paintings as a backdrop.
The exhibition Caravaggio L’Immagine Del Divino is a holistic experience which introduces visitors to the great artist Caravaggio, not only through the number of paintings on exhibit at the National Museum of Archaeology but also through an audio-visual documentary on the artist’s life and a section on Alof De Wignacourt who happened to be the Grand Master of the Order of St. John’s during Caravaggio’s stay on the island.
Caravaggio L’Immagine Del Divino is in its fourth week and has attracted thousands of visitors. The exhibition at the National Museum of Archaeology and the National Museum of Fine Arts is open daily between 9am and 7.30pm.
