The Katakló Acrobatic Dance Theatre of Milan will be producing and premièring a 35 minute show in Malta. This production is being put together exclusively for Diamonds International as part of Timeless 2007, which will be will be held between 7 and 11 November at the Hilton Conference Centre, Portomaso, St Julian’s.
Diamonds International have this year put together a truly astonishing display of glittering diamonds, fine jewellery and exclusive timepieces for Timeless 2007. The theme for Timeless 2007 is Elegance in Luxury – the exclusivity of which is reflected in the exhibits, the location and the set-up itself. These are exceptionally distinctive, and this year includes an original performance conceived by Katakló specifically for Diamonds International.
Katakló’s performance is balanced between dance, sport and poetry, blended imperceptibly with the magic of the silver screen classics, where elegance and agility, accompanied by original choreography, become the protagonist of a special and original art form. The choreography involves a mix of audio-visuals and acrobatic dance which merge beautifully together to provide an inimitable experience involving a number of evergreen international celebrities who are the epitome of classical elegance. These include Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Maria Callas, Sean Connery and Fred Astaire among others.
The Katakló Acrobatic Dance Theatre of Milan is an expert troupe of international fame performing spectacular acrobatic dance. The group, best remembered in for their impressive choreography, blending intense emotions and acrobatic suspensions at the 2006 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony, were brought to Malta for the first time ever by Diamonds International last year.
Katakló is the brain-child of Giulia Staccioli, the group’s artistic director who had previously worked for many years with the American company Momix. In 1996 Giulia, who has been a rhythmic gymnastics champion at the heights of the national and international gym, with Andrea Zorzi and a group of gymnasts and ex-Olympic athletes, founded the first Italian Company of Athletic Dance Theatre. The company made its debut that same year with the show entitled Indiscipline which was an instant success with audience and critics alike and found international acclaim. Since then, her company, all former competitive athletes, have performed shows all over the world. Their biggest performance, which was held in front of an audience of millions world-wide, was the opening ceremony at this year’s Winter Olympics in Torino. The Opening Ceremony of the XX Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games, in fact offered a highly acclaimed manifestation of light games, breathtaking choreography and moments of great spectacle.
The Katakló performance is only part of the entire Timeless Elegance in Luxury experience to be presented to Diamonds International’s guests attending the VIP viewing parties.
Timeless 2007 will be held between 7 and 11 November at the Hilton Conference Centre, Portomaso, St Julian’s and will be open daily for the public on the 8, 9, 10 November between 10am and 7pm. The exposition will be open all day for the general public on Sunday 11 November.
