Camilleri Wines recently hosted a group of foreign delegates from the EU Commission to its vineyards at the limits of Siggiewi followed by a tasting session of some of the winery’s major brands at its outlet in Naxxar Master Cellars.

The EU Commission Officials that were present in Malta last week for a familiarization trip were greeted by Joséf Bonello, Wine Advisor of Camilleri Wines accompanied by Patrick Xerri, the winery’s Viticulturist.

The afternoon visit started with a panoramic view from Salib ta’ l-Gholja in Siggiewi from where Patrick Xerri indicated the location of the various vineyards managed by Camilleri Wines. This was followed by a visit to one of the vineyards where the winery grows part of its Laurenti grapes. During this visit, the delegates also met with one of the vineyards’ farmers and had the opportunity to ask him practical questions about the growing techniques and the particular qualities of the soil in the region. Delegates were then hosted to a wine tasting event at Master Cellars attended by Adrian Borg, winemaker at Camilleri Wines and conducted by Joséf Bonello who introduced the winery’s brands and conducted tasting of the Laurenti, Palatino and gwl wines.

The event formed part of a five-day Study Visit hosted and organized by the Staff Development Organization within the Office of the Prime Minister. The group was accompanied by Ms Joanna Genovese Director of the Staff Development Organization who explained that the group was here to learn about Malta in all its facets, from its political system to its history and language, from its administrative set-up and industry to its cultural heritage. The visit to Camilleri Wines’ vineyards helped give the group added insight into our local wine production, also an important aspect for Malta.
