For the past months, the Xemxija roundabout near the Masgar Olimpiku and the end of the St Paul’s Bay Bypass has been a shambles.
The entire red pavement, put down as recently as last year, has been damaged by vehicles driving over it.
Despite the signs, it is very common to see drivers getting confused and driving the wrong way.
And the present storms have added to the misery and to the general appearance of something long gone forgotten, a feeling reinforced by the usual one single person seen doing something at most hours of the day.
Contacted by this paper, an ADT spokesperson said: “The work currently being carried out at the Xemxija Roundabout consist of separate work in relation to the St Paul’s Bay Bypass EU funded project.
“This work started on 2 October after the summer high season and involves the laying of service utilities and the reconstruction of the junction. Work at this junction was temporarily halted during the summer season in order to reduce inconvenience to the general public and tourists.
‘”Work is being carried out in a number of small phases in order not to close access completely. Work is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.”
However, further along the bypass, the collapsed part is still there although it was supposed to have been finished by last September.
