Malta Independent Wednesday, 21 November 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Various activities are being held at Ta’ Qali to mark World Children’s Day on Sunday. The day is celebrated internationally on 20 November.

Education Minister Louis Galea said children were the country’s richest treasure and their interests should be the most important criteria in drawing up policies.

He was echoed by Dolores Cristina, Minister for the Family, who said children were always at the centre of everything implemented in the social sector.

The Ta’ Qali activities are being held by the two ministries, Agenzija Appogg, and the office of the Children’s Commissioner, with the support of HSBC Cares for Children Fund.

The activities will be held at the Ta’ Qali picnic area on Sunday between noon and 4pm. They will include a discussion in which children will take part. Laptops will be made available, with internet access, for the children present. Characters popular with children will be entertaining and there will also be games, sports, face painting and pony rides. Dogs from the police dog section will give a show, as will firemen from the firefighting unit of the Department of Civil Protection.

Entrance is free of charge for both children and adults.
