HSBC Malta advised that customers will continue to use all existing debit and credit cards after the Euro Changeover.

As from euro-day, that is 1 January 2008, payments made through EPOS terminals, or other electronic delivery channels, will be automatically carried out and debited to the cardholder’s account in euros. The last credit card statements issued in 2007 will be generated showing the closing balance in Maltese lira as well as the equivalent in euros, converted at the irrevocably fixed conversion rate.

The euro equivalent reflects the opening balance of the next statement in euros, due in January 2008.

The statement will also display the new credit card limit in euro applicable on the account as from 1st January, 2008.
