Your Last chance to see Sterling exhibition

Malta Independent Sunday, 25 November 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 15 years ago

As in previous years, the Strerling exhibition is being held at the Phoenicia Hotel in Floriana. This year it is in the foyer, rather than the restaurant, where it is much more spacious. New showcases were designed for the space, enabling Sterling to display all its brands, including the e-jewel ones and the Sterling Diamonds collection. “This exhibition is usually where the thousands of visitors do their Christmas shopping so we always make sure that we have something for everyone, from young to old,” Mr Alfred Fenech added.A separate room is being dedicated to Bulgari, the new, prestigious brand taken up by Sterling this year. There is also a more private space set aside for investment diamonds, while a workshop has been set up on site to clean and value jewellery, to mount diamonds or to trade in old gold.Every year, Sterling Jewellers creates a unique piece and this year it was only fitting that the theme should celebrate the historic adoption of the euro on January 1, 2008. A team led by Kevin Ellul and Carmel Gatt has painstakingly created an exact replica of the €1 coin, down to the minutest detail of both sides. “We like to create something different every year and whatever idea we present the team with, they always manage to rise to the challenge!” Chairman Alfred Fenech said.“We were very excited to do this as there is a real sense that taking on the euro will be a national project. These centrepieces are never done for profit – it took the equivalent of 160 man days - but always out of a patriotic pride in our team’s craftsmanship.” After the exhibition, the euro coin will be on display at Sterling’s museum at Republic Street. This is not the only thing that Sterling is doing in connection with the euro: It is also making “euro” cufflinks” on behalf of the NECC, which will be given to dignitaries. These are on display at the exhibition and will also be available on order in the new year. The exhibition ends today and will be open from 10am to 10pm.
