Mosta local council, together with the GRTU Mosta Businesses Christmas Organisation, and with the sponsorship of the HSBC Mosta Branch, as in previous years, have once again taken the initiative to decorate their town centre and its main shopping streets. Special events associated with the festive season will also be held during December.
The idea is twofold: to create a Christmas environment and instil the spirit of this joyful season, while at the same time promoting trade in this important commercial centre.
Business owners have pooled their resources to decorate and illuminate the Mosta centre, Eucharistic Congress Street and Constitution Street, which are the main shopping areas in the town.
The street light decorations were switched on by Mosta mayor Paul Chetcuti Caruana in the presence of the Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business and the Self Employed, Edwin Vassallo, GRTU president Paul Abela, various business owners and other guests. Joe Zerafa, one of the shop owners present, welcomed Enemalta’s scheme to deduct by 50 per cent the bills on consumption for street lighting in commercial centres.
Various street activities are being planned for 7, 12 (eve of public holidays) and 21 December. On these days there will be late-night shopping and the Santa Marija Band will provide live Christmas entertainment. The Mosta Scouts Group will also be present on these days and Christmas-themed animators will be performing on these special evenings for the joy of Christmas shoppers around.
