The Institute of Maltese Journalists said yesterday it had received a complaint from one of its members regarding a story which was published in the online newspaper www.maltastar.com, in which the journalist was the subject of the story.

The institute said that without one going into the particular merits of the case, it felt that the political views of an individual should never prejudice their possibility of employment, whoever it is and whatever the post he occupies, as long as the individual has the skills necessary to accomplish the work required from that post.

“Nevertheless the institute feels that in the case of a process which is allegedly not transparent, the media has the right and the duty to investigate these allegations. This right has even more relevance when the post is paid from the PBS’s public funds.

“However if the particular journalist feels injured by the story published, it is up to him to find a legal remedy with respect the particular paper,” the institute said.
