Prize Day Of the Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce

The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce recently held its annual prize day for students.

Over 600 part-time students in all age groups attend the courses run by the society. Mr Joseph J. Mifsud, vice-president of the society, presented certificates to over 70 students who placed first, second or their in their courses annual exam for the scholastic year 2006-2007.

The 21 students who placed first in their course examination were also presented with a three-month scholarship under the Special Projects Programme. The funds for this programme were raised during the fund raising dinner which was organised by the society last May at Villa Arrigo.

A sample of the students’ work is being exhibited at the society at Palazzo de La Salle, 219 Republic Street, Valletta, and visitors can see various craft work such as in Malta lace, ganutell, crochet, embroidery as well as paintings in various media and sculptures in stone and clay.

Wood carvings are on display as well as works carried out in gilt, filigree and glass paintings. The exhibition will run up to 15 December (Monday to Friday between 10am and 1pm) and will also be open between 10am and 12.30pm on 13 December when teachers of the society will be on hand to speak to visitors who can also view the classes.
