Over 300 delegates representing various sectors of the Maltese business community attended the second BOV seminar that focused on the practical aspects related to euro changeover.

This was the second such seminar organised by BOV in less than a month due to popular demand.

The delegates were addressed by John Cassar Torreggiani executive head Euro Programme, Peter James Sant senior economics officer EU Affairs, Ivo Camilleri head IT Systems and Joe Baldacchino manager Cash Centre of Bank of Valletta together with Dr Alex Wells, manager Technical Preparations at the National Euro Changeover Committee.

Emphasis was placed on the importance of preparation in the area of cash management for the business community and the implications of the adoption of the new currency. Delegates were also given guidelines for the first days following the changeover, including the introduction of Euro Starter Packs and the cash requirements for the evening of 31 December.

Bank of Valletta also reminds its customers and the general public of the full range of euro information channels that it is continuing to provide in the run up to the adoption of the euro as from 1 January.

BOV has euro information officers at all its branches, an initiative that has been in place for the past 12 months. “Our euro information officers have handled thousands of customer queries over the past year and we envisage that their function will become even more important during these last few weeks leading up to the euro changeover and during the first weeks in 2008,” said Mr Cassar Torreggiani.

Other communication channels that BOV has put in place over the past eighteen months with a view to supporting its customers and the general public include a dedicated euro website at www.bov.com/euro, a special euro information e-mail address at [email protected] and a special euro helpline on telephone number 2131-2020.
