Volksbank’s Advent Celebration

Malta Independent Thursday, 13 December 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Last Saturday, Volksbank Malta invited customers, business partners, employees and their families to an evening of traditional Austrian Christmas and folklore music. The event, hosted by chairman Winston V. Zahra and managing director Herbert Skok, took place in the hall of Chiswick House School, which was lovingly decorated to reflect the Christmas spirit.

In his introduction, Mr Skok explained: “The Holzer Family – mother Anna and the children Magdalena, Kathrin, Stefan, Monika and Roswitha – came over to Malta from their small town in Tyrol to entertain our guests with a lovely mixture of Christmas songs and traditional music, played on harp, guitar, harmonica and dulcimer. For the children, who grew up learning to play the traditional instruments from a very young age, this was an impressive experience, which they enjoyed very much.”

The event was well attended and very much enjoyed by the guests, who were treated to mulled wine and home made Austrian Christmas sweets, prepared by Gabi Sadleder, during the break.

“Our guests kindly followed our request to make a small donation to the Ursuline Creche in Sliema”, Mr Skok said. “The bank has made it a point to support the sisters who care for the youngest members of our society, and we were pleased to give them something to brighten up the festive season.”
