BOV announced that it has successfully implemented an upgrade to its systems which will enable all its ATMs to start dispensing euros as the clock strikes midnight on 31 December.

“We are delighted to announce that, thanks to the upgrade we have implemented, 100% of our ATM network will be in a position to dispense euro notes as soon as the euro becomes Malta’s official currency,” announced Tonio Depasquale, chief executive officer at Bank of Valletta.

“Our people have found a way to improve further on what had already been committed by the banking sector in general and now, thanks to this development, the conversion of all our ATMs from dispensing Lm notes to euro notes will extend to all our network at midnight on 31 December,” added Mr Depasquale.

This development means that over 70 BOV ATMs will immediately be deployed in putting the euro notes into circulation upon euro changeover.

“As the Official Partner Bank of the NECC, Bank of Valletta continues to play a leading role in the euro changeover process. Our aim is to make the transition as straightforward and efficient as possible and we are leaving no stone unturned in order to make it as easy as possible for the general public to adjust and adapt to the new currency in the shortest possible time,” concluded Mr Depasquale.
