Two employers have been fined Lm500 each in court after they were found guilty of employing foreigners without a work permit. One of the employers was also fined an additional Lm100 for failing to inform the Employment and Training Corporation of the employment of four employees.
At the same sitting, three other employers were fined Lm50 each for employing workers without informing the ETC.
The ETC pointed out to employers that they were legally bound to submit the engagement forms of persons they employed by not later than the first day of work.
Self-employed persons must also abide by this regulation.
It also urged the public to continue reporting infringements concerning persons presumed to be working irregularly. A 24-hour freephone service is available on 8007-6501 to enable the public to report abuses.
Reports can also be submitted through the ETC website, www.etc. gov.mt .
