Morena Wins Malta International TV Song Festival

The finals of The Malta International TV Song Festival, which were transmitted live on One TV were a huge success. The winner of the festival was Morena, with Mark Tonna coming in second place and Fiona Cauchi in third place. One Television, together with Hamilton Travel Ltd, organise this prestigious festival which promotes local talent outside our shores.

During the two evenings, 10 foreign singers sang a song from their repertoire, as well as a Maltese composition translated into their language. During the semi-finals, 18 Maltese songs participated while on the final night nine songs competed for the first three places. There was a separate and different panel of distinguished judges each night for both the local as well as the foreign singers.

To keep the festival international, there were some very special foreign guests invited to perform during the finals. These included popular international singer Jonie Falcone; as well as the band Never the Bride. This band is legendary for their song Living Tree, which was performed by none other than Dame Shirley Bassey for one James Bond movies.

The three singers will be sponsored by Hamilton Travel Ltd and will thus be participating in foreign festivals. Apart from this, the winning team won a monetary award as well as the prestigious original statuette as an appreciation of their participation in the festival. With regards to the foreign singers, the Air Malta Trophy for Best Young Foreign Singer was won by Elerki Taskin from the Isle of Man. The jury awarded Sam Barks, from the Isle of Man, as the Best Foreign Singer. The Best Foreign Arrangement of a Maltese Song was awarded to Dono Tsvekov from Bulgaria.

UKAM and AKAM were present during the festival to ensure that everything was done according to regulations.
