Malta Independent Saturday, 29 December 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

ONE TV in collaboration with WHY EVENTS are producing the very first edition of the much awaited MALTA HIT SONG CONTEST to kick off in February 2008!

The innovative song contest entitled MALTA HIT SONG CONTEST will offer various unique opportunities to all finalists including various performances during a brand new Entertainment TV Show to kick-off in January 2008 on Malta’s leading tv station - ONE TV.

A second opportunity to songs in English language

Various local artists and songwriters have been arguing for quite a long time that there is lack of opportunities for songs written in the English language in our local festivals scene.

“Songs written in English can only be entered for the Song for Europe festival. If these fail to qualify for the final stages, then one has no other option other than keeping them for the following years”, commented a well known singer with the organisers.

ONE TV’s managing director, Dr Michael Vella Haber, who is one of the minds behind this initiative commented positively about the MALTA HIT SONG CONTEST describing it as ‘a second chance for all the excellent songs waiting to be heard by the fans of the local music scene’.

A video clip for the winner

Apart from the unique opportunity of having these entries performed on a leading Entertainment show, ONE TV is also offering the production of a video clip for the winning entry made by the professional artistic team of the same station.

An International Song Contest opportunity

Various other interesting prizes will be given away to the winning entry, including an opportunity to represent Malta in an International Song Contest.

A mixture of Judges and SMS-voting

Songs will be judged by a panel of professional judges, who will bring the submitted entries down to the 20 finalists.

The 20 finalists will be given a three month extensive promotion between February and April 2008. During the televised phase, the entries will be judged by a mixture of sms-voting and judges votes.

10 entries for the SUPER-FINAL

10 entries will reach the SUPER-FINAL of Sunday 11th May where a panel of judges will pick the winning entry.
