Malta Independent Sunday, 30 December 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

The BOV Istrina Campaign 2007 has raised the sum of Lm17,500. Donations were collected from over 65,000 children in schools across Malta and Gozo in a campaign that involved the distribution of 7,000 piggy banks in over 2,800 classrooms around Malta and Gozo during the months of November and December.

Michael Galea, Head at the CEO’s Office at Bank of Valletta, presented the funds during the live broadcast of Istrina. BOV employees who participated in the campaign accompanied him.

Presenting the funds Mr Galea said, “Schoolchildren across Malta and Gozo collected Lm6,417 in aid of l-Istrina. This is encouraging and shows that children have once again participated wholeheartedly in this campaign, putting in practice the value of solidarity.”

Mr Galea said Bank of Valletta, encouraged by this excellent response, had decided to make a further donation of Lm11,083 which, when added to the funds collected by the children, brings the total donation to Lm17,500.

This year marked the third edition of the BOV Istrina Campaign with total funds donated over the three years exceeding Lm60,000. Bank of Valletta’s support to the Istrina Campaign forms part of the social pillar of the BOV Community Programme.

Separately, for the second year running, BOV Piggy Banks were distributed to retail outlets across Malta and Gozo. This initiative was again well received and a total of Lm7,490 was donated by shoppers.
